Aug 13 (Reuters) – Michigan health officials on Thursday reported 13,909 cases linked to an outbreak of cyclosporiasis, an increase of over 1,400 cases since their last update on August 6.
Michigan, the hardest-hit state, reported two deaths associated with the outbreak last week, with officials saying both individuals had significant underlying health conditions.
The highest case count was noted in Wayne county at 1,794, followed by Oakland which had 1,344 cases. The outbreak in the state was most prevalent in those aged 40 to 49 years.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 13,895 laboratory-confirmed cyclosporiasis cases across 47 states in the United States, as of August 11.
