(Reuters) – Former President Petro Poroshenko said on Wednesday that Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council had adopted sanctions against him, and he accused current President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of undermining national unity.
“The National Security and Defence Council has adopted an unconstitutional, politically motivated decision – to introduce sanctions against me, Petro Poroshenko as the leader of the opposition and the fifth president,” Poroshenko said in a statement.
Zelenskiy, who defeated Poroshenko in a 2019 election, said in his nightly video address that a session of the council had approved decisions and warned that anyone having endangered national security would bear responsibility. He made no reference to Poroshenko.
