TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Students at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College have been gearing up for the 16th annual homecoming celebration.
Various events were held throughout the week for teams to compete and earn points for the Homecoming Cup. Friday evening, the college hosted its Bed Races competition. The bed races are a beloved tradition that includes students racing a bed on wheels down the avenue as part of a competition in the Homecoming Cup Games.
President Brennan Randolph says it’s an event to remember.
“I think it is unique because at the woods we refer to students arriving on campus having their avenue moment. This is all occurring on the avenue. There’s definitely a tradition that occurs as we welcome students each fall onto campus. So, for this to be a part of the avenue during homecoming I think is something that is impactful and students will remember.”
The winner of the homecoming cup will be announced at the football game this Saturday at the Jay Barrett Field at West Vigo High School.
