TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local doctor has been selected to lead a cardiology committee as part of a national non-profit.
Union Health announced the election of Dr. George Bittar as the chair of the Interventional Cardiology Approval Committee on Thursday.
The committee is part of the larger American Board of Internal Medicine, a non-profit that reportedly certifies internists and subspecialists who “demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and aptitudes essential for excellent patient care,” the release reads.
With more than three decades of dedicated experience in cardiology, Dr. Bittar holds affiliations with various Wabash Valley hospitals, including Union Hospital, Terre Haute Regional Hospital, Sullivan County Community Hospital, and Greene County General Hospital. He is the President of Providence Medical Group in Terre Haute.

Originally getting his medical degree from a Syrian university, Dr. Bittar then completed a residency and fellowship at a hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He trained in cardiology at Marshall University in West Virginia before getting additional training at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
The American Board of Internal Medicine reportedly consists of more than 330 members representing 50 boards and committees.
