ROCKVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Invasive plant species are a big issue throughout the area. But an effort is underway to fight the problem.
It’s called “The Wabash River Invasive Project”. It’s mission is to educate the public about what invasive species and they’re doing the environment.
A special tour of Raccoon State Park was held to point out some of the challenges. Plant experts also used today’s tour to promote an important event in December, which will involve clearing the invasive from a section of the park.
Vermillion and Park County Soil and Water Conservation District Leader of The Wabash Invasive Management Project Hanna Garriott said they will be hosting events to help with the problem.
“Our goal is to limit the invasive that are in Raccoon State Park as well as all over Indiana. This is our area that will focus on December. It’s December 16th will be holding a weed wrangle here and we’re going to basically educate all volunteers and public that come out,” Garriott said.
