TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As the month of June continues, people in the area are working towards multiple Juneteenth celebrations for people in the community to participate in and enjoy.
A celebration in honor of Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, that commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States, will be held with a local, multi-day recognition.
The Terre Haute Day event is in honor of Juneteenth and is free and open to the community.
Terre Haute Day will feature a Black Owned Business Expo, a 3-on-3 tournament, 3 points shootout, a live author signing with the first 50 families receiving a free book copy, a gospel hour, food trucks, a kid’s carnival, a kid’s zone, and more.
The following is a list of events in the area that are taking place in celebration of Juneteenth:

- Pitch Black:
- What: In partnership with the Black Business Alliance and the West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center
- Where: The Station
- When: Thursday, June 15 | 5:30 p.m.
- Young, Black, and Empowered:
- What: This event focuses on providing motivation and leadership to teens in the Black Community
- Where: Haute Body Bar (women) | The Meadows (men)
- When: Friday, June 16 | 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Live Band and Juneteenth Celebration:
- What: People are invited to come out and enjoy live music as a part of the Juneteenth festivities
- Where: Charlie’s Pub and Grub
- When: Saturday, June 17 | 7:00 p.m.
- Juneteenth Celebration:
- What: A family-friendly event for the final Juneteenth Celebration
- Where: Booker T. Washington Community Center
- When: Saturday, June 17 | 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Vigo County History Center Juneteenth Event:
- What: A free and open-to-public Juneteenth celebration with performers, speaker sessions, and more.
- Where: Vigo County History Center
- When: Monday, June 19 | 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
