SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Local financial aid officials gathered at Sullivan High School on Wednesday to help with FAFSA filings.
Indiana extended the application deadline in Sullivan County one month to May 15 following the deadly tornadoes on March 31. Julie Wonderlin, the director of financial aid at Ivy Tech in Terre Haute, said they wanted to organize the event to give whatever assistance is necessary.
“We wanted to be there for the Sullivan community in case they were not able to get their financial aid completed by the April 15th deadline because of the timing of the disaster,” Wonderlin said. “We just wanted to pull together and make sure that they had all the advantages of all the resources and tools that they had in order to get their college education off to a good start.”
Wonderlin was joined by representatives from Indiana State University and Indiana’s Commission for Higher Education. She said the event was able to provide for more than just graduating seniors.
“It’s for anybody in Sullivan that needed help with their financial aid,” Wonderlin said. “21st Century Scholars were invited by the Commission of Higher Education because there are things they have to do throughout high school in order to still be eligible for their award after they graduate, so we had a junior here that was able to get caught up on the things they needed to do through high school.”
Anyone in Sullivan who missed the event but still wants assistance can contact the financial aid offices at a local university.
