TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local food bank has broken ground on a new garage they say will help their organization better serve the community.
The new garage will help Terre Haute Catholic Charities with vehicle storage and drive-through food donations. The group said the new facility is being constructed by Keymark Construction.
It will provide a safe place for vehicles used to provide nutritious food to the food insecure in the community as well as provide further protection from vandalism.
The project was made possible through a $150,000 donation from Bill and Sally Stewart.
“Especially if you were here on a routine basis, to see what all they do, and the people that they help you would see how wonderful this organization is,” said Stewart. “To help these people in need.”
The foodbank collects, stores, and distributes more than 3.8 million pounds of food to more than 85 organizations in seven counties.
