TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Local businessman Pat Goodwin filed to run for Terre Haute mayor Thursday morning as a Democrat.
He ran in the previous mayoral election under the Independent party. Goodwin currently owns Tractor Tools Direct and previously served as the Terre Haute City Engineer under three previous mayors. He spoke on the experience he’s gained and what he feels he can bring to the people of Terre Haute.
“In that process, I not only worked on engineering projects and infrastructure, but I was a part of the budgeting process. I often helped write codes and regulations and so I’ve gained a lot of experience in a lot of different areas of city government. Since that time, I’ve operated my own business,” Goodwin said.
Along with gaining more experience, Goodwin referenced his change in approach as a candidate.
“I’m a change candidate and so if that’s what they want, then they’re going to like what I’m going to bring to the table and I’ll be talking about that a lot over the coming months and I’ll get very specific about that. I’ve got a lot of ideas about things we can do to really jumpstart our community,” Goodwin said.
A press release was sent out on Jan. 12 at 10:00 a.m. to announce Goodwin’s filing to run for mayor.
In the release, he states, “Terre Haute is ready for a change. It’s time to elect a mayor that is prepared to take action from day one. People who know me know I’m always working to make our city a better place in whatever way I am able. We have challenges ahead, but I believe we can confront and overcome the problems that continue to hold us back. With the right leadership and a lot of determination and hard work, we have every reason to be excited about our future.”
