TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Ahead of Thanksgiving, St. George Orthodox Church worked with the Vigo County School Corporation to provide holiday meals to 100 families in the area.
It’s the 16th year of the promotion for the church– one that takes a collaborative effort, according to St. George Young Adult President Courtney Lake.
“We set up an assembly line, of all of the foods that go into the basket, and the parish members from the church, they come out of church and go through the assembly line and fill up the baskets,” she said.
Following that, families come to the church and pick up their “Thanksgiving bags,” which are filled with a turkey, as well as other common items for the holiday. They also work to deliver to homebound families. Lake said she was happy to play a small part in helping those in need.
My favorite part is that they get to have a hot meal on Thanksgiving, and spend time with their families as they do it,” she said. “There’s so many people in need out there, so if you have the time to donate and help families, on Thanksgiving or before Thanksgiving, it’s a great way to help the community.”
