TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTWO/WAWV) Multiple businesses in downtown Terre Haute are picking up the pieces after a rash of vandalism swept throughout the area.
“Two doors, one window was broken and probably $5,000 worth of damage if not more,” Jason Shepard said.
Jason Shepard owns a home improvement store on the corner of Wabash Avenue and 14th street. His business was spared but the former Ambrosini’s restaurant next door wasn’t so lucky with new windows and doors smashed with rocks.
Shepard is currently in the process of remodeling the business and the incident sets the project back.
“Probably a few days set back cause now we have to get doors, windows replaced,” Shepard said. “We have to go around the back to get in and out, carry everything in and out of the backside to the front. So yeah it’s an inconvenience.”
Several business owners in downtown Terre Haute report their businesses were hit by rocks including Papa Johns, Domino’s, Sonka’s, and The Copper Bar.
Larry Faulkner was arrested and is being charged with several charges of criminal mischief, and criminal mischief damage between $750 dollars to $50,000.
Terre Haute Public Information Officer Ryan Adamson says if you see something happening report it.
“Whether it’s a business or whether it’s at home people don’t report what they would consider minor things, graffiti, broken windows to a car or to a house,” Officer Ryan Adamson said. “This is a prime example of why everybody should report those things because the chances are if it’s happening to you it’s happening to somebody else.”
The owners I talked to say they have never been victims of vandalism like this. They hope police find who did it and make sure it does not happen again.
Larry Faulkner is expected to be back in court June 28th.
