VIGO, CLAY COUNTIES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local organization painted the town pink today with its annual carnation sale.
It’s an effort put on by the Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivors organization. Volunteers sold flowers at a number of locations. One volunteer, and member of the WVBCS, explained how the proceeds will make a difference for local breast cancer patients.
“The money that we raise today goes to help buy mammograms for people who are uninsured,” Susan Polifroni said. “It also goes to buy gas cards for people to go get radiation that are suffering from breast cancer, and it also goes to buy sleeves for people who have lymphedema from having breast cancer.”
Polifroni says the organization is thankful to the Wabash Valley for supporting this cause.
“We’re just very grateful for the people who are buying them. It’s a nice gift for Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is Sunday and the carnations are real pretty this year. They’re pink and dark pink and we’re just really enjoying having people come.”
The Paint the Town Pink Carnation sale is an annual event.
