TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County YMCA is hosting its first indoor triathlon in April.
The triathlon consists of a 300-yard swim, a 5-mile bike ride, and a 1.5-mile run or walk. Participants will use the YMCA equipment to compete, swimming the water portion in the pool, riding stationary bikes for the cycling section, and finishing on treadmills. The event can be completed solo or as part of a team of three.
According to Health and Wellness Coordinator Macey Elden the goal is to help the community become healthier and introduce people to activities they might not normally try.
“Hosting a triathlon has been a dream of mine ever since I started working at the YMCA. With the pool open, and installation of the new cycle bikes, I decided to jump in with two feet and bring something new and exciting to the community,” said Elden.
The event will be held on Saturday, April 2 starting at 9 a.m. Those who register by March 22 will receive a Y-NOT_TRI t-shirt.
“So, Y should you TRI? It’s a great challenge and you can do it with friends at your own pace,” said Elden.
The cost to participate is $25 for individuals, $60 for a team of three. Each participant will receive a medal of completion. Those wishing to register can do so at this link. For more information about the event and others at the YMCA visit their website here.
