SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two Sullivan, Ind. residents were arrested for meth possession Wednesday in Sullivan County during a traffic stop.
Deputy Justin Copeland, along with K9 Ace, were driving to an off-duty event in Shelburn, Ind. Wednesday, when Copeland said he saw a driver trying to hide his face with his arm while driving. Copeland said he suspected potential criminal activity, so drove behind the vehicle and saw the plates were expired.
Copeland made a traffic stop for the expired plates on US-41 near Shelburn, a police report said. Immediately after the vehicle pulled over, Copeland allegedly saw the male driver and a female passenger begin switching seats.
Copeland had both people get out and he and Ace conducted a search which revealed methamphetamine stashed behind the dash in a hidden compartment.
Copeland arrested 29-year-old Jared Cooksey and 26-year-old Chelsi Smith, both from Sullivan, for possession of methamphetamine.
