TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local second graders are being recognized for their writing skills while participating in a program that teaches about diversity.
Vigo County second grade students took part in a writing competition focused on diversity and inclusion.
Three students at Sugar Creek Elementary School in Crawfordsville, Ind. were recognized Wednesday for their essays today.
For the competition, students wrote about what it means to be accepting of others, no matter who they are or what they look like. District Director of Diversity, Civility and International Exchange Matthew McClendon said the district is very proud of the students.
“Just seeing the students talk about how open they are and accepting of everything, especially at such a young age,” McClendon said. “It’s really great.”
Students with winning essays will be recognized throughout the month of March.
