Commissioner Brad Anderson said the new site may not even be visible from the road.
Anderson said the lot is roughly a quarter of a mile from Honey Creek Dr. and next to a sewage plant.
He said the lot is ideal because it allows for expansion of the jail, if it’s needed later on.
Officials said the purchase is not finalized but will hopefully be within the next couple of weeks.
Anderson said the next step is a county council meeting to settle bonds on August 12th.
He said he expects the jail’s new location could even bring business to the mall and surrounding businesses.
Officials said if everything goes smoothly they could break ground as soon as this October.
Surrounding businesses, including Mike’s Stop and Shine, are looking forward to the jail being build.
