VINCENNES Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)- The new school year is in session for both Vigo and Knox counties in Indiana.
Riley Elementary School started classes Thursday and and teachers and parents are mostly stocked on school supplies.
In the state of Indiana school teachers can get up to a $100 tax credit when they buy school supplies, but one teacher said that’s not even close to enough.
Kellee Worland, a second grade teacher at Riley Elementary school, said teachers are crafty when buying supplies because they need to stretch that 100 dollars.
She said even with savvy shopping skills, teachers still pay out of pocket for their students and classroom.
It adds up after a while. Then you see your receipt and you about pass out.”

Worland said the state needs to realize teachers do not get a lot of pay and they could use a higher tax credit, but she said in the end it’s all worth it.
She said kids need supplies, and she, as well as other teachers across the nation, are going to make sure they get it!
