TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Work on the new Vigo County Jail is on schedule and within budget.
Vigo County Commissioner Brendan Kearns said everyone involved with the project meets monthly to discuss various components of the design. Topics discussed on Monday included technology and lighting.
He says one thing that will be good for both jail employees and inmates are the “sky lights” on top of the building, which will allow natural light into the facility.
“There are studies that actually show that having natural light coming into the facility can help keep people a little calmer, so we’ve done things like that in the jail design to make it less institutional while being a safe and secure facility for our employees and inmates,” Kearns said.
He also said the goal is to have the new jail complete by March of 2022.
