TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man is in police custody after a standoff at the Pear Tree Inn on U.S. 41 in Terre Haute Friday night.
According to Terre haute police, officers responded to the hotel for a welfare check; however, they found a man who allegedly pulled a gun on his girlfriend and barricaded himself inside the room.
THPD’s Special Response Team and hostage negotiators were called to the scene. After several hours, officers took the man into custody. They said he was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Police said Donald Kearschner of Clay City, was taken into custody for resisting law enforcement, intimidation, and pointing a firearm.
