NEW YORK, Nov 5 (Reuters) – Gaming software provider Unity Software has held talks to be acquired by a consortium of investors including private equity firm Silver Lake Partners and Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund PIF, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Silver Lake, which already owns a roughly 8% stake in the gaming software company, and PIF have approached it in recent weeks, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions are confidential.
The buyer consortium discussed a valuation of about $25 billion in recent weeks, before the company’s latest earnings report lifted its market capitalization to roughly $21.5 billion, the people said.
Unity has been working with an investment bank to evaluate its options following the approach, they added.
The deal is not certain to go through and the plan, including terms of the deal, may still change, the people said.
Unity declined to comment. Silver Lake, and PIF did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
