PUTNAM CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – John Gonzalez of Terre Haute is charged with the murder of Melissa “Lisa” Attkisson.
According to the Greencastle Police Department’s Facebook page, 28 year-old Gonzalez was located by authorities in Rock Island, Ill. Monday, Feb. 3.
He was found near 44-year-old Attkisson’s stolen car. He was also in possession of several of her belongings.
Authorities found Gonzalez walking down the road with Attkisson’s identification cards and credit and debit cards.
Attkisson’s body was found Jan. 28. She and Gonzalez had been dating and living together at her Putnam County home prior to her death.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
On Jan. 29, Putnam County Prosecutor, Tim Bookwalter, filed a murder charge, Level 6 felony auto theft and Level 6 felony theft of a firearm charges against Gonzalez.
Gonzalez will be brought back to Vigo County, where he was already wanted on a warrant for parole violation.
His Vigo County court date is still pending.
Gonzalez was incarcerated twice at the Indiana Department of Correction. Once in 2012 for a Vigo County conviction for sexual battery and another time in 2015 for a robbery conviction in Fountain County.
