PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Parke County man is in custody after allegedly biting a deputy and taking their taser from them.
The incident happened on October 22, while deputies were responding to a Parke County home for an investigation.
While at the home, 24-year-old Jose L. Paniagua allegedly attacked one of the deputies, leading them to deploy their taser.
Paniagua then allegedly began to fight the deputy. During the fight, the sheriff’s office said Paniagua bit the deputy and gained control of the taser.
The deputy was then able to get the taser back from Paniagua and restrain him until backup arrived.
The deputy was injured during the altercation and received medical attention at Union Hospital in Clinton. He has since been released.
Paniagua was taken into custody and charged with disarming a law enforcement resulting in serious bodily injury, battery on a law enforcement officer resulting in serious bodily injury and resisting law enforcement.
