VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Dylan Smith will appear in court on Thursday for a final pretrial conference as he faces murder charges stemming from a shooting in a Vincennes park lot.
Smith was taken into custody on August 5 after allegedly shooting and killing 30-year-old Taylor Hendershot in the parking lot of Cardinal Liquor Store.

After shooting Hendershot, police said Smith left the parking lot and went to a nearby house. A several-hour standoff then occurred.
Smith was ultimately taken into custody and charged with murder. He has plead not guilty.
In September, Defense Attorney Brock Dawson requested that Smith’s trial be moved out of Knox County. Dawson argued that widespread news coverage, community memorials, and the victim’s family connection to a sitting county judge make it unlikely an impartial jury could be selected locally.
A judge has denied a venue change for Smith.
The defense also filed notice that it intends to raise an insanity defense.
Smith will appear in the Knox County Circuit Court for a pretrial hearing on October 9 as he awaits a jury trial.
That trial date has been set for November 4 at 8:30 a.m.
