TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local custodian at Dixie Bee Elementary has made the decision to make a life-saving donation to his brother-in-law, which is, one of his kidneys.
On any normal day you’d find Randy White cleaning the halls and cafeteria at Dixie Bee Elementary School in Vigo County, but soon, he’ll face a more life-changing task.
White’s brother-in-law, Mike Armstrong, has been on dialysis for three years, but that’s soon to change thanks to a gift from White. This 65-year-old custodian is donating one of his kidneys to his loved one.
“I just feel like it was divine intervention because my sister married him and I’m her twin. She couldn’t give because she’s a different blood type, but I was the same blood type and I just thought this is the right thing to do cause, they’ve been married 45 years and I just wanted to see that continue,” said White.
To show their support and admiration for white, Principal Mika Cassell announced the news over the intercom and the entire student body cheered to send White off and wish him luck in his surgery.
“Randy works the day shift and so he is here the whole time they’re here and they love him. He’s a very kind man and I felt that they needed to know what a noble thing that their custodian was doing, for someone else,” said Cassell.
“If more people would just look into it and find out that they can help somebody out, I think I’d be a lot better because there’s a lot of people that need these and that’s what I want to do,” said White.
Though this is a major surgery, Randy White said he’s not afraid. He’s just thankful he can help his family.
