TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun and Terre Haute Police held a press conference on Tuesday to announce the expansion of what they called “proactive policing” initiatives throughout the city Tuesday afternoon.
Mayor Sakbun explained that this initiative had been in place for the downtown area of the city and had seen success in lowering statistics when looking at petty crime. Sakbun also discussed the realities of lowering crime rates in recent years while the public perception of crime has gone in the opposite direction saying “perception is reality” as part of the reasoning for increasing visibility of officers in the city.
Both the Mayor, THPD Chief Kevin Barrett, Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt and other law enforcement officials were in attendance to answer questions from the media regarding this announcement.
