WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — While it’s still warm outside right now, state leader are getting ready for cold weather.
In Indiana, dangerous and deadly conditions on the road are just facts of life, but thankfully state leaders say they are ready to battle ice and snow and keep people safe on the highways.
They’re starting, in warm weather, with truck inspections.
“These inspections just help everybody perform their best and perform the best out on the roadways and when the people are able to perform their best, the equipment is able to perform their best, then we’re able to perform our best and serve the traveling public,” said Blake Dollier, Public Relations Director of INDOT West Central.
It takes two to three weeks to prepare these trucks. This means not only making them look spick and span on the outside but also looking for any mechanical issue. They check the brakes, lights, tires, and more.
“Plus, we have our other maintenance duties that we are doing on top of all this so, you can’t wait until November and then bad weather’s here and then we’re trying to get maintenance done, we’re trying to prepare our trucks and do this and dealing with cold weather and surprise snowstorms or whatever this time of year,” said Matt Schalburg, Highway Maintenance Technician at INDOT Terre Haute Sub-District.
Though it may seem like winter is far away, weather can quickly change, and they say they will be ready. INDOT also asks that when they are out on the road to allow them room to work. They are here for your safety.
These inspections occur in preparation for each spring and winter.
