UPDATE (10:23 a.m.) — The driver involved in a crash Thursday morning between a train and a vehicle allegedly passed two stopped vehicles before entering the railroad crossing, according to Vigo County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Steve Meng.
Meng said the driver entered the rail crossing while the lights and signals were operating, before being hit by a CSX train.
The driver of the vehicle hit by the train was injured in the crash and was transported to Union Hospital for treatment. The driver has also been issued citations for operator never licensed and disregarding a train signal, said Meng.




(ORIGINAL) TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — First responders are on the scene of a train versus vehicle accident in Terre Haute that happened just after 8 a.m. Thursday.
According to the Director of Media Relations for CSX, Austin Staton, one of their trains made contact with a vehicle on the tracks near the intersection of North Erickson Street and East Devonald Avenue.
Staton said Vigo County Dispatch was immediately notified after the accident and advised that the single occupant of the vehicle is being transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
“There were no injuries to the crew of the train. CSX appreciates the quick response of the local first responders. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation,” said Staton.
