FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Labor Day is less than two weeks away, and Indiana State Police want Hoosiers to keep safety top of mind.
Sgt. Matt Ames said they’ll have extra patrols from now through Labor Day weekend. They’ll be looking for aggressive driving, texting and driving, and drivers not wearing seatbelts. He said that with Labor Day weekend and the kickoff to college football, they expect people to be drinking.
He reminded people to stay safe by setting a limit for themselves or making sure they have a safe ride home with someone else. Ames also reminds drivers to make sure they’re well rested and that their car is prepared if they’re making a long trip for the holiday.
“A lot of times, you can see someone that’s very tired and they will look like an intoxicated driver out here operating on the roadway, going left of center, not paying attention because they’re tired,” said Sgt. Ames. “So, make sure that you get plenty of rest before you get take off and make sure that you’re vehicle’s ready to go.”
Ames also said it’s important to drink responsibly around bodies of water and keep an eye on kids. They want everyone to stay as safe as possible.
