KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man in Knox County is in custody after officials said they found illegal drugs on him after he allegedly threw a traffic cone at a deputy’s vehicle.
The incident happened on October 23, when a Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy was driving on Willow Street near a Casey’s General Store.
As the deputy approached the store, a man sitting on the curb in front of the business allegedly stood up and threw a traffic cone at the deputy’s vehicle.
The sheriff’s office has identified that man as 34-year-old Brandon McDaniel.
“Throwing an object into moving traffic could cause substantial damage to a vehicle and could cause a risk of serious bodily injury to a person from a motor vehicle crash. The traffic cone had landed in the roadway and was obstructing traffic, causing vehicles to maneuver around the cone,” said the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
After being hit by the cone, the deputy turned around to go back to the store.
As he was returning to the store, McDaniel ran out into traffic, cursed at the deputy and then hit the deputy’s vehicle with his fist, said the sheriff’s office.
The deputy then exited the vehicle to detain McDaniel. After being detained, the sheriff’s office said, “a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance was found in McDaniel’s pocket, which later tested positive for methamphetamine.”
McDaniel has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct. He was also cited for obstruction of traffic for throwing the cone into the road.
