TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A struggle over a firearm led to one person being shot and another arrested after an altercation Friday night in Terre Haute.
As we previously reported, Terre Haute Police Department officers responded to the 800 block of North 8th Street on Friday, October 10, on the report of an individual with a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, officers secured the area and provided medical assistance. The Terre Haute Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The release goes on to state that witnesses were separated at the scene to assist with the investigation.
THPD Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians arrived on scene and took control of the investigation, and Vigo County Deputy Prosecutor Rob Roberts was brought in to assist with the case.
According to the release, preliminary information indicates the victim came to the residence, as he has on multiple occasions in the past. It goes on to state that the residents believed the individual may have been involved in a theft from their residence the previous day. During a confrontation, a struggle over a firearm occurred, resulting in the victim being shot by one of the residents.
One of the residents, 21-year-old Cornelius Brown, of Terre Haute, was arrested for Aggravated Battery.
As we previously reported, THPD stated that the shooting had nothing to do with homecoming festivities.
