TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun has approved a bid from the Indiana American Railroad for a property located on 13th Street and Hulman Avenue.
“This project represents exactly the kind of growth we are committed to bringing into Terre Haute,” said Mayor Sakbun
In August, Mayor Sakbun told WTWO/WAWV that the city was planning to continue to create an “economic corridor” along 13th and Hulman, and that Indiana Railroad had submitted a bid to begin a 2-million-dollar project.
“Economic development is a top priority for this administration. Historically, projects of this nature have occurred in the county’s industrial yard, but we are excited to bring significant development directly into our city,” said Mayor Sakbun.
According to a press release, Indiana American Railroad’s plans for the site are anticipated to create between 25 to 50 new jobs.
The city said the project will bring “renewed economic activity to this parcel within city limits.”
“By activating this property, we are not only fostering job creation but also ensuring Terre Haute continues to be a place where businesses want to invest and grow,” said Jordan Marvel, Executive Director of the Terre Haute Redevelopment Department
