TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Vigo County Commissioners held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, and it was business as usual for the commissioners as the meeting was light and focused on some housekeeping within the county.
This included them voting on and approving an audit that will look more into the bond that was awarded to the Vigo County jail back in 2019. They also approved extending their contract with community corrections on some of the monitoring equipment that they use. This contract will be extended for another year, and the cost will remain the same.
After the meeting concluded, Vigo County Commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard gave an update on the Hasselburger Bridge,
“This new one will be much better. Anytime you get log jams, it causes really the creek to back up, flooding issues like that,” Clinkenbeard said. “Plus, that bridge was a hundred years old. So, in the next four to five weeks, they’ll be doing the decking on the bridge. With hopes of having the bridge opened by November 1.”
He also provided an update on a park in Riley that is nearing completion.
“On September sixth, our parks department will open the new Riley lock forty-seven park down in Riley,” Clinkenbeard said. “Which goes back to where the old locks at, you will be able to see that. The parks department and some of the other volunteers have been busy working on that, so we’re excited to open that.”
The Vigo County Commissioners will meet again on Tuesday, September 2, at 9:00 a.m. in the council chambers. It is free to attend and open to the public.
