TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A new project has been under construction in downtown Terre Haute as crews bring upgrades to the intersection of 13th Street and Wabash Avenue.
They’ve been reconstructing the intersection to add extended left turn lanes on 13th Street, with upgraded traffic signals. The goal of the project is to improve the safety and traffic flow at the intersection.
Brandon Halleck, owner of The Dance Studio located at the corner of 13th and Wabash, said he loves to see progress, but his business has been impacted since construction started.
“It really impacted the way to get into the dance studio. So, we are open. I have had people call me and say are you even open? But if you can find your way back through the alley you can get to my parking lot back there,” said Halleck. ” They are putting blacktops down right now, and I almost had a tear of joy as I saw the trucks backing in over there, so that to me is a positive sign that we’re getting close.”
WTWO/WAWV reached out to Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun for an update on the project, and he said it’s about 50% complete. He adds that all drainage structures have been installed.
Sakbun said the current timeline for the project to be completed is by November 30.
