INDIANA. — Today our parent company, Nexstar is celebrating 29 years. Each year, WTWO helps out in different areas of the community on our Founder’s Day of Caring.
This morning, many WTWO volunteers packaged lunches for a summer food service in Linton and later went to Worthington to help clean up a tornado damaged farm.
The summer food service program packaged lunches will feed children for 3 days once delivered. Chartwell dining and food service company is taking 200 meals Shakamak School District and 550 to the Linton School District.
Makenzie Dunn, Director of Dining and Services for Chartwell Food Service Company, says the WTWO team was a huge help.
“It allowed my staff that have been working very hard, to have the day off. With you guys helping package, we’re packaging for 750 kids. Seven days a week, two meals a day so, it’s a lot of meals going out,” said Dunn.
Taking time to lend a helping hand is important to us. Tim sander’s, general manager at WTWO, says this day is also a chance to connect the community.
“I think it’s great. We gotta do more than just report the news. It’s so great to see our teams coming out and helping each other, working together and making a difference in our local communities,” said Sanders.
Dana Winklepleck, anchor for WTWO says she is proud of our coworkers who signed up to assist in Linton and Worthington.
“It’s so nice to be able to help the community in this way and as you can see, we always have lots of volunteers from the tv station who do want to come out and help,” said Winklepleck.
The farm had debris scattered in the field, so we layered on protective gear and set off into the field. team members collected large limbs and planks of wood. The farmer said he was very thankful, and now he is able to use and mow the land.
We want to thank the organizers who helped put together these events.
