(Reuters) -Sam Bennett won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup playoffs’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) after helping Florida to a second successive NHL championship with a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game Six on Tuesday.
Bennett, who turns 29 on Friday, scored five goals in the Finals series for a total of 15 in the postseason. The Canadian also set the NHL record for scoring the most goals on the road in a single postseason with 13.
“To win twice … we put in so much work for this. I am so proud of this group, it’s incredible the team we have here,” Bennett told Sportsnet. “It’s the best feeling in the world, I don’t know how else to describe it.”
Bennett scored seven goals and provided seven assists in the playoffs last year as Florida won the Cup for the first time.
