SHELBURN, Ind (WTWO/WAWV) — Construction began Tuesday morning to remove the railroad tracks on U.S. 41 in Shelburn.
As we previously reported, the problem tracks have caused issues for drivers for quite some time.
Sullivan County Councilwoman Jackie Monk told WTWO that there has been a lot of people working to get the tracks repaired or removed with little action taken from the owner of the tracks, Cathcart Rail.
That’s when Monk stepped in, “I did the research, made the calls and put pressure on the company,” she said. Adding that this project was an opportunity to “dig in, do the research and get the job done.”
Monk is looking forward to seeing the success when the job is complete. “We’re just about there,” she said excitedly.
According to INDOT the construction is expected to take two weeks, weather permitting. One lane will remain opened in both directions for the duration of the project.
