TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— This week is National Coroners Week and WTWO spoke with the Vigo County Coroner for an idea on his job operates.
Vigo County Coroner Travis Norris said that his day-to-day consists of doing death certificates along with other paperwork. He says that he has a great team of deputies who go out alongside him and do investigative work on bodies and crime scenes. The deputies also transfer the body to the autopsy department at their new location by the Vigo County Security Center. Norris said that he is now in the process of trying to modernize the department.
“We are looking at the computer programs that we have and the availability to do more modern investigations,” said Norris. “We are working closely with the law enforcement offices that haven’t really done as much as they are doing now with the investigation side where they can take their scene investigations and automatically upload it to our system.”
Norris added that they are also trying to spread awareness and education on organ donation.
