TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Construction is scheduled to start on August 26 for the Erie Canal Rd. and Davis Dr. stoplight.
Officials said the work is needed after a dump truck with its bed up tore down power lines and damaged the pole’s foundation. For now, the intersection is a 4-way stop.
Due to the unique situation, Vigo County Engineer Larry Robbins said they had to hire a private contractor to do this project. He said drivers should try to avoid this area over the next couple of weeks.
“It is a high-volume intersection and is very convoluted,” he said. “If you can avoid the area, please do for at least the next couple of weeks. We are doing everything we can to try and get it fixed and remedied.”
Robbins added that this is a $100,000 project that will be an insurance claim for the company at fault for the damage.
