VIGO COUNTY, Ind (WTWO/WAWV) — On Wednesday, Vigo County 911 dispatch officially moved into their new home at the County Community Corrections Facility and began operations at 6:00 AM.
“It’s a million times better,” Vigo County Commissioner, Mark Clinkenbeard said when talking about the new office. “The old place is what they call ‘the dungeon.’ And it’s what you can imagine the basement of a jail would look like,” he added.
Clinkenbeard said the move has been a long time coming and took a lot of moving parts to make happen.
During the transition period, dispatchers worked out of a temporary home at the Terre Haute Police Department while equipment and technology were moved out of the old location.
Clinkenbeard said he is glad to have the project wrapped up and the employees working in a safer environment.
“The employees that have been working in those conditions are so appreciative. Everybody wants a safe place to work, and plus again, it’s just state-of-the-art. I mean it’s got everything they need to keep the citizens safe, to get people on the job or on the scene quicker, things like that. It’s great.”
