TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A tradition ranging back over three decades made its return to Terre Haute on Friday.
Christmas in the Park has been a holiday staple in the Terre Haute community for 37 years. It is where residents can drive through the park and see the shelters local organizations have decorated for the holiday season.
There were many other things that were a part of this event including, a candy cane hunt, live music from the Terre Haute South band, fireworks, and even a visit from Santa Claus.
Leah Stump is the administrative assistant for the Terre Haute Parks Department, and she says this is the perfect kickoff to the holiday season.
“It is just an exciting time for families to come as a unit and be able to spend time in the park, enjoy the train rides, and enjoy all the festivities. It is just an easy and fun night to come out and get the holiday season started,” said Stump.
She also added how much she enjoys this event herself.
“I love this event because of how much joy it brings the children in this community. You can see the smiles on their faces from miles away because of all the fun things they have to do here. It is truly a sign of how powerful the holiday spirit can be,” added Stump.
