TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Thrive West Central announced over $600,000 in awards to three housing projects in Vigo County to help address need around the community.
The awards are listed as follows:
- $245,000 to John Mutchner Homes Inc. for the Townes of Bear Creek, where over 40 town homes will be built near Fruitridge Avenue and Hulman Street for phase one of the project.
- $245,000 to Joe Hoop Construction for 16 single-family homes in Terre Haute on Albert Drive.
- $195,000 to MX LLC for the Hilton Hills project for single-story homes near the Springhill Drive area.
Ryan Keller, the CEO of Thrive West Central, said they hope to see construction start in the coming months.
“Collectively, we awarded $1,127,000 to leverage $27.6 million in private sector development for housing,” Keller said, referencing additional projects in Clay County. “Once we’ve concluded that, builders can start building as quickly as they are able to.”
Vigo County Commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard said he’s happy to see progress being made on the issue– saying it’s crucial for growth in the area.
“It’s good to actually see this money getting out there and homes being built,” he said. “It’s really important because it’s so exciting to have all this growth in our community with businesses coming and things like that, but it’s so important we have as many people living here in our county as possible.”
And as these come along, more is in the works. The county, along with the city of Terre Haute, have committed $10 million in federal funding for housing, and Keller said over 90% of that money remains– and said they are consistently looking at ways to use those funds.
“There’s still a considerable amount of money left. We’ll continue to do rolling applications and awards all throughout this next year, as funding is available,” he said.
Clinkenbeard said they hope to announce more in the coming weeks.
