VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — On Monday afternoon, Vincennes University Leadership, the Red Skelton Foundation, and the VU Foundation broke ground on a new project.
It’s the future site of the Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Art, and the Skelton Estate pledged four million dollars toward the project in honor of Lothian Skelton’s late husband, Red Skelton.
The gallery will showcase artwork by the famous comedian and Vincennes native.
“It’s going to be a completion of the dream come true. It’s what is necessary, to have a museum and Red’s art as well, because during my marriage, he was a painter as well as a performer,” explained Lothian Skelton.
Anne Pratt, the executive director of the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy commented on the groundbreaking event.
“It is just so exciting, especially on the tenth anniversary of the opening of the museum to be able to break ground for this incredible new addition will really focus on Red’s artwork.”
The gallery will be 7,200 square feet and will connect to the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy next to the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.
