TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Verizon hosted their 11th annual backpack giveaway on Sunday.
This gives students and families the opportunity to get free school supplies and backpack. There were also coupons to local businesses along with a lunch box courtesy of Culver’s.
Verzion is very big on their employees giving back. Cody Mason is the local Culture of Good ambassador for Verizon and talks about the company’s giving back initiatives.
“Each employee is encouraged, every one of us, to get out there and volunteer in our community, and give back to our community in any way. We’ve done a lot of different things here locally. We’ve done over $60,000 in grants here locally out of our store alone.”
This event completely ran out of school supplies and backpacks. Mason says he is going to make sure that will be harder to do next year.
“Going into today we did not know that the turnout would be this big. This is our biggest turnout for this event ever at this location. It is safe to say that we will be getting more resources for this location next year.”
