VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Police had to take an armored vehicle on a drive through local farm fields and wooded areas to locate and arrest a suspect wanted out of Vermilion County, Illinois.
That’s according to Terre Haute Police, who said their officers assisted the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police in the manhunt to locate the suspected person Sunday. The still unidentified suspect was reportedly wanted on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm. ISP said the person is a suspect in a shooting incident.
Officers reportedly created a large perimeter around the area the suspect was believed to be near the intersections of N. Erickson Street and E. Devonald Avenue. The THPD Special Response Team was dispatched along with negotiators and other uniformed officers. Police said once they located the suspect, negotiators were able to talk him into surrendering.
Sgt. Matt Ames with the Indiana State Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody by 2:02 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
