SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sullivan County has been through a lot this year. However, the Sullivan County Fair is always a shining light for the area. This time it’s no different. Sullivan County fair queen, Caroline Page, says these events bring everyone closer together.
“Especially after the tornado, seeing everyone come together and still support each other is just a very humbling experience because although in the show arena, we are competing against each other, everyone is still so supportive and works together if anyone needs anything.”
The fair has been a big success this week. All of the events have had more people attend than expected and vendors have nearly sold out every day.
There are more big events scheduled as the week comes to an end. Tim Wilson is Sullivan County Fair board president, and he hopes the success will be a trend.
“We hope it’s yet to come. Tonight, we have the pork chop dinner, truck and tractor pull. Our health fair is tonight, there’s a blood drive.”
4H is the main emphasis of this fair. Most of the daily events are planned around livestock shows and auctions. These events can make memories that last a lifetime for 4hers who’ve dedicated years to these events. This was the case for grand champion goat owner, Kimberly Monroe.
“This year has been a lot of hard work, a lot of preparation, and it’s been a lot of waiting these past 10 years, but I feel like I’m on cloud nine right now and I’m not looking forward to coming down off of it. It has been so great. Everyone around here has been so supportive. All of the hugs, all of the tears, and all that has been amazing.”
The Sullivan County Fair will continue through July 22nd.
