VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Many county and state fairs nowadays call in companies to provide the rides and more concession workers for their fair. This is no different in Vigo County.
Drew Exposition is one of those companies. This means that the employees of this company have to be on the road constantly.
Fair ride ticket seller, Nicole Dingle, tells us about this company’s route.
“We do about 22 fairs throughout the year. We start off in Georgia. We end back in Georgia, but we go as high as Indiana then end back in Georgia. We travel usually through the southeast.”
All of the things that you see at the fair have to be transported to the next one before it starts. This means that there has to be a lot of prepping and equipment involved in this process.
Concession stand owner, Brenda Kirby-Haynes, tells us her process in moving from fair to fair.
“We have three units that we move. Our trailer, our RV, and our bunk house which is where our help lives. Pull two duelies and a stock truck. We have route sheets issued by our office that all the vendors follow, or try to, so that if anyone has problems on the road, somebody knows about it.”
These workers are constantly with one another. This means they have time to grow and bond with each other.
For some, that is the best part about the whole thing.
“I love the people. I love my co-workers and the camaraderie and big family unit that we have out here.”
Drew Exposition workers will finish out the week at the Vigo County Fair and then head to the Coles County Fair in Illinois at the end of the month.
