TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — You can enjoy a delicious treat next week, all while supporting a great cause.
Tuesday, May 30 is World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Day.
On that day, Ritter’s Frozen Custard will donate 20% of its proceeds to the National MS Society.
MS is a disease that affects the central nervous system in the body and disrupts how the brain communicates with the body.
Pam Grimes lives in Terre Haute and was diagnosed with MS in the early 1990s.
She’s on the board of trustees for the National MS Society and said MS affects everyone who has it, differently.
“Everyone who has MS has different kinds. That’s why the ‘multiple’ is used. So mine basically is a lot of weakness in my legs and balance was bad so that kept me from using my legs and standing,” Grimes said.
She said this fundraiser will not only raise money for research but also get the conversation going with people who may not know anything about the disease.
“We do run across people that don’t know anybody who’s got it which I find kind of odd since I know so many people that do. There are 2.8 million people in the world that have MS so that’s a pretty big number,” Grimes said.
Ritter’s Frozen Custard is located at 2203 Lafayette Avenue in Terre Haute.
