TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– The Terre Haute Pride Fest will return this year following the inaugural event in 2022– but this time, it will have a different time and place.
Katie Lugar, the interim co-president at the Pride Center of Terre Haute, said this year’s event will take place on September 16th at Indiana State University campus. As for why the event won’t be in June– which is when many Pride events are typically held– Lugar said a number of factors played into the decision.
“We are part of the Indiana Pride Network, which is a group of people all across Indiana who offer different Pride festivals and celebrations throughout our state. When we got together, we realized we wanted to support each other and be at all of our events, but that makes for a very busy June,” she said. “We’re excited to offer it in the fall next year so we can get our pride organizers a little bit of a break in June, but also spread the joy of Pride all year long, and so we can welcome in our college students to join us as well.”
Lugar said she is excited for the event to continue to grow for years to come.
“We had about 3,000 people at our first Pride Fest. This year, I think it’s going to be even bigger and bigger so we’re really excited to be able to expand and celebrate with our community,” she said.
They are currently in the planning stages for September’s festival– and Lugar said those interested in helping with that process can contact the pride center.
