TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A keynote speaker, who has had a lifetime of experience serving others, visited Terre Haute Friday.
Physician, author, activist, and clown Dr. Hunter “Patch” Adams visited the Landsbaum Center for Health Education. He was also the title character, for the 1998 Robin Williams film, “Patch Adams.”
Adams spoke today, about how he explores, the magic and power of care, not only in his patients’ lives, but in the lives of caregivers.
ISU students spoke about what it meant to them, to be able to meet the real Patch Adams.
Corey Christman, a student at ISU, said, “Yeah I mean to be honest, most of us when we were watching the movie had no idea it was based off a true story, until the very end and then to see that he’s still around and he’s still trying to do his mission, it’s just extraordinary that we even get to be near him, and I mean considering how famous his story is, that we get to hear it from the man himself.”
Lauren Smith, an ISU nursing student said, “Just pure excitement, I’d love to know, just the thought process, and just everything that he’s built throughout his life is just more exciting.”
