TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — To show support for the Sullivan community, Harley Davidson Cannonball in Terre Haute is holding its annual Blessing of the Bikes event with proceeds going to the Salvation Army of Sullivan.
“The community has gone full force supporting Sullivan. We wanted to be able to get involved. We have employees that work and live there and we have lots of customers from that area as well. And we wanted to be able to donate monetarily to the Salvation Army so they could put the funds where they’re most needed,” said Judi Van Horn, Events and Promotions Manager at Harley Davidson Cannonball.
The Blessing of the Bikes will be from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 29. Participants can expect live music, a motorcycle ride, a Jonah fish fry, drinks, Sullivan-branded t-shirts, and more.
No purchase is required to attend the events, but tickets to participate in parts of the event are available at the Harley Davidson Cannonball dealership. Presale tickets are $10.00, but tickets can also be purchased on the day of the event for $12.00. The tickets will include access to the Jonah fish fry, which starts at noon and includes a sandwich and two sides. Drinks and desserts can be added for an additional dollar a piece.
The Sullivan Strong t-shirts are limited and can be purchased for $20.00, the Groove Time band will be performing from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and $3.00 beer and wine will be available at the event.
For those interested in participating in the motorcycle ride, registration starts at 11:00 a.m. and is $10.00 per bike and an additional $5.00 for a passenger. Van Horn said that the tentative route for the ride will be down US 41 to Sullivan, down Section Street, and back down US 41 for an hour-and-a-half-long ride.
While Sullivan continues to recover from the deadly tornado, many surrounding communities have stepped up to help and put together benefits, fundraisers, and events for the people of Sullivan.
“I’ve got several sponsors that have provided help with this event. Golden Corral, Baeslers, the Grand Traverse Pie Company, Tshirt One, and several others. We’ve gotten tremendous support from the Terre Haute businesses and one of our core values here at Cannonball is championing our community so we’re proud to be able to do that,” Van Horn said.
